Learning Happens Everywhere

Teaching Critical Thinking

Target Audience:   K-12 Teachers, Department Chairs, Curriculum Coordinators, School and District Administrators

Length of Time:   OPTIONS: Half Day, Full Day

Description

What does it mean to think critically about a subject? The primary goal of education should be for students to be able to ask questions, find the answer and present that answer cogently and clearly. How do we prepare students for this daunting task, particularly amidst the increasing challenges of testing and Common Core requirements? The interplay between information and ideas is always present if we train students to look for it, and allow them the opportunity to explore and provide resources that encourage creative engagement.

Participants will
  • Explore traditional topics from untraditional means
  • Consider new questions to old problems
  • Assess and acquire sample curriculum materials that encourages critical thinking
